Sometimes Free Listings are not applied automatically even if you prepared everything correctly. In such cases, a so called Control MC helps.
Before you start please check the following:
Do you only have one Merchant Center? #
Yes: Then start directly with step 1 in the instructions
No: Continue reading
Do you have multiple Merchant Centers? #
Yes:
- Is one of your MCs located directly with Google (i.e., not via a CSS)?
Yes: Then you can use this MC as a control MC and continue from step 3 in the instructions
No: Then please create a new Merchant Center as described in the instructions below (starting at step 1)
No:
- Then start directly with step 1 in the instructions
Instructions: #
- Create a new Google Merchant Center, which will only serve as a control unit in the future and has no other purpose. This MC must be a default Merchant Center, i.e., it must be created directly with Google and not be located in your CSS. The website of the respective merchant must be verified and claimed in this MC. Enter the business information, but do not set up anything else in this MC (do not upload any products, etc.).
- IMPORTANT: Claiming and verifying the website in the new MC will not affect the current ads and the current CSS-MC in any way. MCs located in a CSS do not require a claimed & verified website. You can ignore any warnings in this regard.
- Once the website has been claimed in the new Google MC, you can select which CSS the free product listings will run through. (Click on the gear icon > “General” > in the tab at the top, click on “Comparison Shopping Services” > expand the “Selection of price comparison portals” table > select your CSS for free product listings
- Another advantage is that you can also set which CSS is authorized to support campaigns outside the EU
- And last but not least, you can specify here which CSS is allowed to place Google Shopping ads with the products. If you want to do this exclusively yourself, you should revoke permission for all external portals.
